The Department of Environmental Engineering has the undergraduate major of Environmental Engineering and possesses three professional laboratories respectively of microbiology, environmental monitoring, and environmental engineering and the Shaanxi Key Laboratory of Environmental Pollution Control and Reservoir Protection Technology of Oil and Gas Fields. It is the “Engineering Technology Research Center of Shaanxi Province for Oil Drilling and Pollution Control”, “Sub-laboratory of SHE Key Laboratory of PetroChina”, and “Innovation Team for Pollution Control and Reservoir Remediation of Oil and Gas Fields” of universities in Shaanxi, as well as the co-building unit of the “National Key Laboratory of Pollution Control and Treatment of Petroleum and Petrochemicals”, providing strong support and guarantee for the scientific research training and engineering practice ability cultivation of professional degree postgraduates in this field. Focusing on the characteristic domains of oily sewage and sludge recycling treatment and reservoir protection in oil and gas fields, the Department has undertaken a number of scientific research projects, including Major National Projects, Projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Special Projects of the Shaanxi Provincial Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection, Special Science and Technology Coordination Projects of Xi’an City, and Major Special Project of Karamay City, as well as engineering research projects of enterprises and institutions like PetroChina, Sinopec, and Yanchang Petroleum. In recent three years, the Department has published 94 representative papers (55 included in SCI and EI and 39 in core Chinese journals) and 6 books, obtained 25 authorized patents for invention and 3 utility model patents, won 3 provincial and ministerial awards (2 first prizes) and 4 Science and Technology Awards for Higher Education Institutions of Shaanxi Province, and cultivated a total of 88 postgraduate students, making outstanding contributions to the field of environmental protection of oil and gas fields in China and winning influential scientific research achievements and awards at home and abroad. Over the years, graduates in this direction have been highly appraised by employers.
